On a sparkling clear morning, the SVFD practiced their ice rescue skills on frozen Lake Lincolndale. After cutting a hole in the foot thick ice with chainsaws, members donned brand new Maverick exposure suits and alternated roles as victim and rescuer with on-shore members acting as belayers on the rope system. Every member alternated roles through multiple evolutions. With the large number of lakes and reservoirs in our town, ice rescue is a critical skill in the SVFD inventory.
