At the annual Westchester Regional EMS Council awards ceremony held on May 17th Somers Volunteer Fire Department members received an award for lifesaving. Honored at the event were emergency medical services responders from all over Westchester County.

On November 11th 2017, Somers VFD was dispatched to Good Sheppard Church in the Granite Springs section of Somers for a cardiac arrest. Somers EMT/Paramedic William Rothschild began cardio pulmonary resuscitation almost immediately. He was later assisted by the following members: Firefighter/EMT John Fitzgerald, Firefighter/EMT Peter McDonald, and Firefighter Kevin McDonald. Due to the immediate and professional care by these members the outcome of this call the patient made a full recovery. The following members were awarded lifesave 1 Awards by WREMSCO:
