A few weeks ago we took delivery of our new Hurst eDraulic extrication tools, commonly referred to as the "jaws of life." These specialized tools are used in vehicle rescue and the new battery powered tools are a significant upgrade over our hydraulic tools. On August 21st 2019, the SVFD conducted in-service training on the new tools. Members of the SVFD practiced vehicle extrication techniques on two vehicles and had time to "experiment" with the tools. This training allowed the members to build confidence with the new tools and implement them in our most frequently used tactics for these incidents. Over the next few months the SVFD will be doing more drills utilizing these tools to ensure that all members of the department are familiar with them. Thank you again to the Somers Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners for this purchase as it has greatly improved our operational capabilities.
