February 14th 2020 was a busy day for the SVFD! Somers Fire responded to 1 residential alarm, 2 vehicle extrications, and a reported structure fire. For the second time in a day Somers Fire members were putting the Hurst Jaws of life eDraulics to work. At 4:19pm the SVFD was dispatched this time to Route 100 near the intersection of Route 139. Units arrived to find a two car head on motor vehicle accident with one trapped. SVFD members once again worked to remove the "B post" of the vehicle so the patient could be removed to the awaiting ambulance. This was another quick extrication of about 7 minutes total. Recently members of the SVFD have been focusing drill topics on vehicle extrication and it paid off today. Two patients were transported to local hospitals and Somers Fire remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes until clearing.
