On Saturday February 6th 2021, members of the SVFD conducted some hands on ice rescue training. SVFD members ran through drills for ice rescue utilizing our Marsars Water Rescue Systems, Inc equipment. The Somers Fire District encompasses both the NYC Amawalk and Muscoot reservoirs as well as many large lakes and smaller bodies of water. With the ongoing “cold snap” ice has formed o our water locally. Somers is a very popular destination for ice fishing due to its abundance of water and proximity to NYC. Water rescues and especially ice rescues are not uncommon for us during cold winters when ice is able to form. Members got some great hands on training using our specialized equipment today.
Thank you to the Lake Purdy's Property Owners Association for supporting our training allowing us to train on the lake!
