The SVFD along with our neighbors to the north, the Croton Falls FD, participated in a hands on fire behavior class and demonstration. The morning classroom session was held at the Amawalk firehouse. The afternoon hands-on session, at the Granite Springs firehouse, consisted of multiple evolutions of fire behavior and suppression in a portable, controlled environment, provided by Flash Fire Industries.

Our interior firefighters faced conditions one can expect in a structure fire including blinding smoke, confined spaces and temperatures at ground level of 120 degrees and exceeding 1100 degrees at the ceiling level of 8 feet. We all learned valuable skills to keep ourselves safe and protect lives and property.
