The Somers Volunteer Fire Department's chief Jonathan Mackey (2441) stepped up as master of ceremonies for Somers' annual Memorial Day remembrance. In addition to the usual placing of wreaths, a rendition of Taps was played by a bugler from Somers Boy Scout Troop 376, a rousing version of The Star Spangled Banner on harmonica and several interpretive poetry readings. It was a memorable ceremony, the weather was cool and dry and Chief Mackey ran a tight ship.

The bugle used to play taps has an interesting history dating back to WWII and can be found by clicking the link below. Many of the members of the SVFD have also been a part of Boy Scout Troop 376.
