| For Immediate Release (2/17/22): 2nd Alarm Structure Fire in Heritage Hills At 4:11pm on Wednesday February 16th, 2022, the SVFD was dispatched to 954 Heritage Hills on the West Hill for a reported structure fire. Car 2441 (Chief of Department Mackey) arrived at 4:12pm and found a single-story 80x40 condo unit with heavy smoke and fire showing. A 10-75 was requested upon arrival with the updated address of 973 Heritage Hills. Car 2441 transmitted a 2nd alarm after receiving reports from neighbors of two people trapped. Command was passed to Car 2443 (Assistant Chief Lucia) as 2441 began a search of the residence. Due to heavy fire conditions, a thorough search of the residence was delayed. Upon the arrival of Somers firefighters and mutual aid departments, handlines were quickly deployed to attempt to bring the fire under control so that searches for the reported missing occupants could be completed. The fire was brought under control at approximately 6pm and fully extinguished at 10:57pm, following investigations. The fire was contained to two residential units. One resident, the sole occupant of the building, was found deceased in the fire building. All fire/EMS units cleared the scene at approximately 11:15pm. The New York State Police investigation is still on-going and the official cause of the fire is undetermined, pending the completion of the investigation.
