On Tuesday April 22nd the Somers Fire Department responded to 10 calls for service in the 24 hour period. These calls ranged from medical calls to fire and carbon Monoxide alarms and 3 motor vehicle accidents (MVA's). At 2:53 PM Somers Fire and EMS along with the 45-Medics were dispatched to Route 118 in the area of Green Tree Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries. Somers dispatch advised responding units that it was possibly a rollover. Upon car 2442's arrival it was determined to be a confirmed rollover with the vehicle resting on its roof, one patient inside. Rescue 20 and Engine 180 arrived on scene and immediately began rendering aid to the driver and stabilizing the vehicle. Utilizing the specialized cribbing and support struts on Rescue 20 crews were able to stabilize the vehicle so the patient could be removed safely. The patient was quickly removed from the vehicle and transferred to the waiting ambulance for transport to the hospital. During this time Route 118 was closed in both directions for safety and removal of the vehicle. Somers units left the scene at approximately 4:00 PM and the road was reopened. In the coming hours volunteers would again respond to two more accidents, both on Route 100, and one where extrication using the "Jaws of Life" would be needed.
