In the early hours of the morning on Friday October 24th Somers FD was alerted for a tanker to respond mutual aid to Mahopac at the "Feed Barn" in the Village Center complex on Route 6. That request was later updated to an Engine and Ladder due to the heavy fire conditions. Tower Ladder 18 responded with a crew to the scene and set up the aerial at the rear of the building for roof operations. Engine 181 was instructed to grab a hydrant in between PJ's Restaurant and the Shell Gas station. Engine 181 fed water up to the scene for firefighting operations. The crew from Ladder 18 went to the roof to fight the fire which was mostly on the exterior of the building. The crew worked knocking down fire and opening up the roof to check for extension. Somers FD responded with a total of 11 interior firefighters. All units who operated on scene worked hard to prevent any further loss or damage to the strip mall. While Somers FD operated on scene our neighbors at the Katonah Fire Department stood by for us.
