Chief of Department Car 2441 arrived on location minutes after dispatch a reported nothing showing from the exterior and began his investigation. Upon entry, there was a slight odor of burning. Car 2441 continued his investigation towards the kitchen and found heavy smoke pushing from an interior wall. The Chief of Department made his way to the rear of the building to find fire pushing out of the structure. A working structure fire (10-75) was transmitted to bring in additional resources to the scene. Additional Somers units quickly arrived on scene. Multiple hand lines were deployed, and Route 6 was shut down so a water supply could be established. Multiple Mutual Aid Companies arrived on scene and assisted Somers to extinguish the fire. Due to the location of the fire, crews opened up walls and ceilings, and vented the roof in order to help extinguish the fire. Additional resources needed to be called to the scene, making it a Second Alarm fire. Somers FD and Mutual Aid Units operated for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes before returning to service.
