At approximately 3:15 on Thursday November 20th, 2014 Somers FD was dispatched to a reported garage fire in Heritage Hills on the West Hill. Units arrived and found heavy smoke coming from a large "carport." Ladder 48 commanded by Lt. Mike Cyrulik arrived on scene first and reported heavy smoke from the roof. Car 2443 (2nd Assistant Chief Jockimo) arrived on scene and established command. Shortly after he requested the 10-75, which means a working structure fire and brings additional resources to the scene. Ladder 48 took the front of the building and began fighting the fire. Car 2441 (Chief of Department Wahlers) arrived on scene shortly thereafter and requested the 2nd alarm assignment. The 2nd alarm brought fire companies from Croton Falls, Bedford Hills, Yorktown, Mahopac, and Katonah to the scene. The fire was knocked down shortly thereafter and a majority of the building was saved. One civilian patient from the scene was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Somers EMS 80B1. The fire is still under investigation and all Somers Fire units cleared the scene just before 6pm. Once again thank you to all of our mutual aid partners for your help!
