2015 Ice Rescue Drill

By Line Officer Jon Mackey
February 7, 2015

On Saturday February 7th Somers FD conducted our annual ice rescue drill. The area that encompasses the Somers Fire District is comprised largely of water, and is a popular area for water based activities. Ice fishing is especially popular in the Muscoot reservoir on Route 100 where we have responded to ice rescues in the past. Rescue 20 carries specialized suits, ropes, and a sled designed for travel on the ice. Several members practiced entering the ice and removing a simulated victim from the water and bringing them to shore. The members of the Somers FD continually train to learn new techniques and to keep our skills sharp to provide the best protection possible to our town.
