🚒🚑 As you all know, a snowstorm is forecasted to move into our area starting today. Fire and EMS crews have begun winter storm preparations, including chaining apparatus to ensure we can respond safely in snow-covered conditions. We strongly encourage residents to limit travel.

🚘 Fewer vehicles on the road allow:
• Fire, EMS, and police units to reach emergencies faster.
• Somers Highway and NYS DOT crews to plow and treat roads safely and efficiently.

🏠 Help Us Reach You in an Emergency:
• Keep driveways, walkways, and the front of your home clear and accessible for emergency responders.
• Park vehicles close to your home, but never block hydrants, roadways, or emergency access.
• If there is a fire hydrant near your home, please clear at least 3 feet around it so it can be accessed quickly in an emergency.

🔥 Space Heater Safety Reminder:
• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn (furniture, bedding, curtains).
• Never leave space heaters unattended or running while sleeping.
• Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet — do not use extension cords or power strips.
• Turn heaters off when leaving the room.

🔌 Generator Safety Reminder:
• If you are using a generator during a power outage, place it at least 20 feet away from your home.
• Generators should never be used inside homes, garages, or near doors, windows, or vents, even if they are open.
• Always direct exhaust away from the house to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the home.

❄️ Stay safe, stay warm, and take precautions as the storm moves through our area.
