On Sunday February 16th at approximately 1:30pm Somers FD was requested to respond mutual aid to Mahopac for a working residential structure fire. The fire was located on Stephanie Lane in the southern part of Mahopac's district near the border with Somers. Engine 183 and Tower Ladder 18 responded quickly to help our neighbors battle the blaze. The efforts were hampered by below zero wind chills and the heavy snow that has fallen all winter. Somers crews worked both on the roof and inside the house opening up walls and extinguishing fire. A total of 16 Somers firefighters responded to this emergency. Utility 88 (Rehab bus) was requested to the scene to standby and provide rehab services for the firefighters operating. During this time Yorktown Heights Engine 272 stood by at Somers Fire Headquarters to help cover any additional calls in our district. Units operated for approximately two hours. Excellent job by all who responded in the tough conditions. Photos courtesy of Frank Becerra (Lohud)
