On Wednesday February 25th at approximately 11AM The Somers Fire Department was dispatched mutual aid to Golden's Bridge on the level 1 assignment for a residential structure fire. The fire was located near the intersection of Lake Street and Danger Road. Car 2445 (Captain Mackey) and Tanker 16 responded moments later. Upon arrival Tanker 16 made its way up the long and narrow gravel road to the tanker staging area. Somers firefighters went up to the scene and stretched the second hand line off of Golden's Bridge Engine 140 with Bedford Hills FD members. The 2nd alarm was struck shortly there after bringing in additional mutual aid and adding Rescue 20 and Utility 88(Rehab) from Somers to the assignment. Somers and Bedford Hills firefighters put the second line in service and made a push into the basement of the well involved house. Crews were able to knock down all visible fire in the basement using a large hose line. Rescue 20's crew brought additional hand tools and air bottles up to the scene and helped open up walls looking for additional fire and windows for ventilation. The firefighters on scene operated under tough conditions with the massive amount of snow on the ground and the lack of available manpower. This fire would eventually go up to 3 alarms before being brought under control. There was one minor injury to a firefighter and one dog did perish in the fire. Somers FD units operated for approximately two hours before being released from the scene by command.
