Shortly after 1:30am on August 8th, Somers Fire and EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Route 202 and Lake Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries and a reported vehicle fire. Car 2445 arrived and confirmed the vehicle fire and that the single occupant was out of the vehicle. Engine 183 arrived first due with Rescue 20 right after. Car 2443 (Assistant Chief Jockimo) took command. A single hose line was stretched and the fire was knocked down in short order. Somers EMS evaluated the driver for injuries. Somers FD units were on scene for approximately an hour and 15 minutes during that time Lake Road was closed in both directions. All units cleared the scene at 2:45am.
