On Sunday December 20th 2015, Somers FD was dispatched to the East Hill of Heritage Hills for a reported chimney fire shortly before 9pm. Car 2443 (Assistant Chief Jockimo) arrived on scene four minutes later and reported a working fire. Upon arrival he had flames showing from the wood enclosure surrounding the chimney. He requested the 10-75 (1st alarm structure fire) assignment. The 10-75 brings the rest of Somers FD apparatus along with mutual aid resources both to the scene and to relocate to cover our firehouses. Ladder 48 was first due and arrived on scene also within four minutes. A line was stretched off of Ladder 48 while the Chauffeur put the aerial into operation. Members checked the interior but found no signs of fire so the efforts were concentrated on the flames extending on the roof area. Firefighters were able to knock down the visible flames using the hose line from the ground until crews could get up to the roof to open up. The incident was placed under control with minimal damage to the inside of the residence and Somers units cleared shortly after 10pm. Thank you to all who assisted.
