MVA With Large Fluid Spill on Route 35

On December 22nd 2015, at approximately 3pm Somers Fire was dispatched to Route 35 in the area of the entrance to Pepsi for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Car 2445 (Incident Commander) arrived on scene approximately 7 minutes later and reported a two vehicle MVA involving box trucks with a large fluid spill. Westchester EMS treated and transported one of the drivers while the FD concentrated on mitigating the fluid spill endangering the nearby reservoir. Somers FD was assisted by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police as they have jurisdiction over the watershed areas. During the incident Utility 5 was special called to the scene to bring more "speedy dry" absorbent material to assist with containment. Somers FD operated on scene for approximately 90 minutes then turned the scene over to the DEP Hazmat team.
