Last week we placed the new car 2443 into service. It is a 2021 Chevy Tahoe command vehicle. Unfortunately due to COVID the vehicle was significantly delayed and has been in the works for over a year. The vehicle was up-fitted by Hudson Valley Fire Equipment with Whelen lighting products and graphics. The Somers Fire District operates multiple command vehicles that you may see around town. These vehicles allow Chief officers to arrive at emergencies quickly and it also provides a command post to run large scale emergencies. This vehicle is replacing the current vehicle assigned to Car 2443 which will become Utility 244. Utility 244 will become the fire duty vehicle allowing our current utility 81 to become the EMS duty vehicle. These vehicles are utilized by Captain’s and Lieutenant’s when they are on-duty to help ensure coverage for every emergency in the Town. This state of the art vehicle cost approximately $85,490. A large portion of the cost of the new vehicle was supplemented by a SAM grant from New York State, facilitated by Senate District 40 Senator Pete Harckham. We were lucky to have the Senator at our firehouse for a tour of the vehicle and our facility. We are very grateful to Senator Harckham for his continued support to our organization and to emergency services locally. A big thank you to the Somers Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners for their hard work and funding on this project. The Somers Fire District does a tremendous job ensuring that we have the best equipment possible to accomplish our mission of saving lives and property.
